You can control what you buy, when you buy it, and from where you buy it.

We all have to eat, and groceries are usually a pretty big chunk your your spending each month. In this three part series, Smart Grocery Shopping: Save More, Stress Less, we are going to talk about ways you can reduce both the amount you spend, and also make it easier when you actually shop.

Part 1 covers some of the most important things to should be doing and thinking about BEFORE you set foot in a store.

Planning & Budgeting

  • Plan meals for the week to avoid impulse buys.

  • Make a shopping list and stick to it.

  • Check your pantry to prevent duplicate purchases.

  • Shop your pantry and create a “mystery meal” with ingredients you already have in the cupboard. AI can help you with a recipe, believe it or not.

  • Set a grocery budget and stay within it.

    • Keep track as you put things in your cart so there are no surprises at the register

  • Cook From Scratch You pay a premium for having things done for you in delivery meals and meal kits.

  • Recreate your Favorite Restaurant Meals. There are tons of copycat recipes for all your favorite places to eat. It will definitely be cheaper at home.

  • Planning on always having leftovers will help you to not have to cook on those busy days.

  • Batch Cook so you have favorites in the freezer ready to go. (Bonus points if you bought the ingredients on sale!)

Just doing these are a great way to begin making trips to the store less stressful while still reducing your grocery expenses.
